Huawei Mate XT officially goes on sale in China

The Huawei Mate XT was officially announced on September 10 and garnered millions of bookings before its release. While these bookings are not an exact metric to measure sales, it is still an indication that customers in China have shown an insane level of interest in the tri-fold flagship. Well, today, those customers who happily intended to make a purchase left Huawei’s physical retail outlets empty-handed and are likely livid, because the latest report states that they were unable to receive a unit due to a policy introduced by the company.

Sales of the Huawei Mate XT could be affected as the company has only allowed customers whose pre-orders have been confirmed to purchase it

There is certainly a ton of hype built around the Huawei Mate XT, and it is available on the same day as Apple officially releases the iPhone 16 in a multitude of regions, including China. Unfortunately, the company could inadvertently be axing itself in the foot, as Reuters reports that some customers who described themselves as ‘super fans’ could not make a purchase. These individuals expressed sheer disappointment when they realized that only those people whose pre-orders were confirmed were allowed to acquire their units.

Bear in mind that the base model with 256GB of internal storage will set you back a whopping $2,800, and despite the ridiculous sum, Chinese customers are willing to fork over the amount to daily drive the Huawei Mate XT. However, it is not entirely the firm’s fault, though there should have been a warning of some sort to prevent potential buyers from wasting their precious time to purchase one of these tri-fold smartphones.

Apparently, Huawei has run into some supply chain problems that have limited the total number of shipments. Naturally, the company would want nothing more than to accommodate each and every one of its loyal customers, but given that the Huawei Mate XT features an utterly unique design, mass producing it has been difficult. Executive Director Richard Yu said that sales were better than expected and that the tri-fold smartphone sold out within seconds.

Yu did not provide the exact number, but he stated that Huawei is working to address capacity issues. It is possible that customers can wait for the device to be available in stock, and their unwavering commitment towards getting their hands on it spells trouble for Apple, knowing that China brings in a hefty chunk of its annual iPhone revenue.
