Many of us don’t shut down our computers. When we leave our workstations, the computers go into sleep or hibernation mode. However, theoretically, shutting down your PC can help save power and reduce the carbon footprint. If you don’t want to shut down your computer manually, you can schedule a shutdown for a Windows 10 PC.
Windows 10 Scheduled Shut down Steps
The Windows 10 scheduled shut down is very simple to set up, and you can do this for both your work PC and laptop.
Step-1: Go to the Start menu and type Task Scheduler in the search bar. Click Open.
Step-2: On the left side of the Task Scheduler app, Click on the Task Scheduler Library.
Once you do, you will be able to see a list of tasks and their triggers. These are usually updates that are to happen and the time when they will start.
Step-3: To schedule shut down, Click on Create Basic Task on the right side of your app.
Step-4: The following task box will appear, and you can name your task and add a description if you choose. After you are done adding the details, click Next.
Step-5: The next screen that shows up will give you multiple options. You can choose to shut down every day, once a week, once a month, etc. I am selecting the Daily option. Once the option is selected, Click Next.
Step-6: In this window, you will be able the schedule shut down time. Once you select the time, click Next.
Step-7: This is the Action screen, and it displays 3 options. The only relevant one for this task is the first task/action. Select the Start a program option and click Next.
Step-8: In the Program/script box, type ‘shutdown’ and add ‘-s -f -t 60’ in the Add arguments box. After you are down, click Next.
[These arguments are standard settings for the shutdown.exe program by Microsoft. The -s means shutdown the computer, -f forces applications running in the background to shutdown, and -t 60 is basically syntax for a one-minute countdown. If you want it to be an immediate shutdown, use the syntax -t 0.]
Step-9: The next screen is a summary of your task. If you are satisfied with the instructions, click Finish and close the app.
After this, your computer will shut down every day at the time of your choice.
