If you are playing Crimson Desert on PC with a DualSense or DualSense Edge controller, you may notice the game defaulting to Xbox "ABXY" prompts if you're pairing your controller via Bluetooth.
While connecting the controller to your PC with a USB cable solves the issue, there's only one reliable way to get the game to display the correct icons for a wireless PlayStation 5 controller, in case you have this issue.
Fixing The Issue
[UPDATE - March 20, 7:21 AM] A more practical way to fix incorrect controller icons is to disable Steam Input. Go into your Library, access the game's Controller Settings and then Disable Steam Input. In my case, while the interface shows that my DualSense Edge is not compatible with the game, it actually is, and works with the correct icons.
[Original, alternate method] Early in my playthrough of the PC version, I was forced to play withthe Xbox icons instead of my DualSense Edge icons, as the game very rarely displayed them correctly when the controller was connected via Bluetooth.
At launch, the most reliable way to fix this issue is to first introduce the controller to the game via a USB cable.
- Boot Crimson Desert with your DualSense controller connected via USB cable.
- Once the game reaches the main menu, confirm that the PlayStation icons (Cross, Circle, Square, Triangle) are appearing correctly.
- While the game is still running, unplug the USB cable.
- Turn the controller back on to sync via Bluetooth.
While this is not an optimal solution, especially in some setups, forcing the game to display the correct PlayStation controller icons is almost a requirement unless you are quite used to the Xbox icons as well. With the game relying on complex button combinations, including the R1 + Circle combination for the Spear’s broken counter, having the wrong icons on screen can lead to making mistakes at the worst possible time.
