Halo leaker RebsGaming reports that Halo Studios is already working on remakes for the second and third installments in the sci-fi first-person shooter franchise. Halo 2 and Halo 3 are currently in early development, presumably powered by Unreal Engine 5 like the first game's remake; this builds on a previous claim from a former Halo Studios developer, and is now backed by two additional sources, one of whom provided verification to RebsGaming and confirmed the trilogy remakes will proceed regardless of how well the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved performs.
A separate source (the same one who leaked an unreleased Campaign Evolved video clip) also corroborates, according to the leaker, the early development status and adds that Campaign Evolved's confirmed three prequel missions will feature Brutes, deliberately seeding elements that will feel familiar when the Halo 2 and 3 remakes eventually arrive.
On the Brutes specifically, an unverified third source claims their design draws from Halo Reach concept art, and that they'll wield the Brute Plasma Rifle and the Spiker. A new skull will also reportedly let players spawn Brutes in the original campaign missions.
Beyond the remakes, RebsGaming notes that a new multiplayer project (hinted at via a job listing and a developer's LinkedIn) and a brand-new mainline Halo title also appear to be in some stage of development at the studio. The multiplayer project is probably the extraction shooter Project Eker, which RebsGaming recently said is the latest evolution of the long-rumored Project Tatanka Battle Royale project.
According to a recent leak, Halo Campaign Evolved will be released on July 28 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, with an early access period starting a few days earlier. Microsoft has yet to confirm this, though.
Halo Campaign Evolved features Unreal Engine 5 running on top of the Blam engine. The cinematics have been rebuilt, the animations have been updated, the soundtrack has been remastered, and some voice lines have been re-recorded from the original cast. Gameplay additions include 9 additional weapons from later Halo titles now usable (Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, Needle Rifle, etc.), the availability of Sprint (toggleable off for purists), Vehicle hijacking (including the ability to pilot the Wraith tank), and the Warthog having an extra rear seat to support full 4-player co-op fireteams. All original missions were also rebuilt with enhanced level design and improved wayfinding.
