After Google launched its Pixel lineup in August, the attention shifted to its mid-range series, and the upcoming 9a model is said to be packed with promising flagship features. The rumor mill seems to be churning in full swing in the form of renders giving away the revamped camera layout and speculations suggesting a thinner profile for the new model from its predecessor. Now, we have a report that points towards the Pixel 9a launch date being sooner than expected.
Pixel 9a could see the light soon as the pre-orders are expected to open up in mid-March
Google has been taking users and the tech community by surprise by not sticking to its usual pattern of release. The company first deviated for the Pixel 9 series and now reportedly the Pixel 9a. The Pixel 9 lineup was expected to come out in October similar to the past launch window, but the series came out in August which is earlier than usual.
Many speculations regarding the Pixel 9a, Google's budget smartphone, have emerged lately, and it looks like Google will continue with the early release this year for the model. As reported by Android Headlines, multiple sources have confirmed that Pixel 9a will open up for pre-order in mid-March 2025, contrary to the expectation of a May release schedule.
If we see the bombardment of leaks and renders, it can be due to the change in the schedule and the release not being far off. The report highlights the renders of Pixel 9a, which also serve as proof of an early release, as Pixel 8a had a similar pattern of leaks last year. It is difficult to predict Google's schedule when it comes to its mid-range series, as the release timing has had a pattern of irregularity.
The budget phone's release schedule has been unpredictable as the Pixel 3a was unveiled in May 2019, and the next-generation mid-range phone saw a delay due to COVID-19 and was released in August. While 5a followed a similar schedule, the 6a model came out in July. The Pixel 7a and 8a opted for an I/O launch, with the latter being announced a week before.
The report further emphasizes Google's plan to opt for a similar schedule pattern for the next budget-friendly model, the Pixel 10a, and have the launch be somewhere in March. The Pixel 10's release date, possibly in August, is also suggested, and that makes sense given how the Pixel 9 came out in the same time frame, but Google's plan cannot be determined due to its frequent schedule changes.
