With Ryzen 9000 and 7000 series selling like hotcakes, naturally, the AM5 platform has become the most popular platform in the consumer market in most regions.

Mindfactory Weekly Stats Show That AMD is Still Way Ahead of Intel in Motherboard Sales as Well; B650 and B850 Chipset Motherboards Sell the Most, Indicating More Interest in Mid-Range Segment

It shouldn't be surprising to see AMD motherboards outselling Intel motherboards, but the latest stats also reveal some interesting trends, including popular sockets, vendors, and chipsets. With the rise of Ryzen processors, Intel hasn't even been in the top 10 when it comes to best-selling CPUs, and we have seen this countless times on multiple retailers in various regions. This brings us to the point where AMD has almost 90% or even higher share in most parts of the world, with AM5 now being the dominating platform.

Last week's motherboard sales stats from Mindfactory, which is a well-known German retailer, show that the AM5 platform is leading with roughly 73% share (2,005 units shipped) when it comes to total motherboard shipments. In the second position, we still have AM4 with 470 units, followed by Intel's LGA 1700 motherboards with 185 units, and LGA 1851 in the fourth position with just 70 units. Once again, this shows that Intel's Alder/Raptor Lake/Refresh CPUs are more popular than the current-gen Arrow Lake processors, but Ryzen 9000 and 7000 already have a big lead.

As far as popularity goes, MSI is the leading motherboard manufacturer, with almost half of the total units shipped belonging to the company. With 1,185 motherboard sales, MSI takes 43.4% of the total market, and ASRock follows with 30.6%. It's interesting to see that among all the chipsets, the B650 is still the most popular, which is obviously due to its wide compatibility with both Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors out of the box, low prices, and better availability. The AMD B850 chipset is also quite popular because it's just an upgraded version of the B650 and offers PCIe 5.0 for the GPU as well.

Both chipsets allow CPU and memory overclocking and have ample features for supporting modern components and devices, while those who want superior upgradeability and component support opt for the X870E. The higher sales of B650 and B850 show that consumers are more inclined towards mid-range offerings that not only serve them with modern features but will eventually help them upgrade later easily without having to spend a lot on a higher-end motherboard model.

That said, as the AM5 platform brings only DDR5 support, most have transitioned to DDR5-based systems, and we have about 80% of the total motherboard sales boasting DDR5-compatible DIMMs. ATX is still the dominant form-factor, and micro-ATX is also popular since many opt for compact builds. All in all, we saw nearly 10 times the revenue generated by AMD compared to Intel last week, which is a clear indication of how the market has shifted in favor of AMD CPUs and motherboards due to superior gaming performance.
