We have been hearing about Samsung working on a slimmer version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 for quite some time. It was supposed to be named 'Slim' but later became the 'Special Edition,' and it could be because the variant is only 1.5mm thinner than the standard Fold 6 model. The new addition is set to take on the fierce competition that has been constantly coming up with bigger and thinner displays. While the thickness, standing at 10.6mm, is not revolutionary, the camera upgrades incorporated might actually be what the tech community could be most looking forward to.
The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 'Special Edition' is packed up with camera upgrades that users were dismayed not to find in the Galaxy Z Fold 6
While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition selling point was apparently the reduced thickness of the phone, there was not a major reduction. The device is still going to be thicker than Honor's Magic V3, which has come up with record-breaking thinness of 9.2mm. Nevertheless, the variant is still slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and that is not the only iteration, as the new edition is said to come with an upgraded in-display camera. In addition to this improvement, it is also said to bring up a prominent rear camera enhancement that users have been asking for a long time.
In an image shared by Evan Blass on X, formerly Twitter, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition might finally come with the 200MP primary camera. Earlier reports pointed toward such an upgrade coming to the then rumored Ultra version of the Fold 6. While nothing has been stated about the telephoto and the ultrawide camera yet, we wonder if it will undergo some improvements as well.
Samsung has been taking incremental steps with its foldable models, and users have been asking for more advancements given how agile the market has been and how others are proactively bringing innovation and improvement. So far, every generation of the foldable still does not match the main camera packed in the flagship Galaxy S devices, as even the latest model, Galaxy Z Fold 6, features a 50MP main camera.
Given how the new AI-infused foldables are on the pricier end, users have complained about not getting the needed sensor upgrade, which Samsung suggested was due to the build of the foldable that made it hard to incorporate it into the hardware. Now, users are hopeful of getting the camera improvement they seek on the slim version of the Z Fold 6, and if this is the case, the South Korean tech giant might have to make the needed changes for its next-generation fold model.
