The Samsung Galaxy S25 has caused quite a bit of buzz recently, especially with the changes being reported for the Ultra variant. With the S-series, the company has a snail-paced approach to the camera, and this is about to change with a new leak that gives users hope of a massive upgrade. Previous contradictory speculations pointed towards Samsung developing a triple-lens rear-facing camera for the Ultra. However, the latest rumors suggest that we might see different plans unfold, making the predictions related to the camera module for the S25 Ultra a little inconsistent.
The S25 Ultra could give competition to Google Pixel 8 Pro with its 50MP telephoto camera
The Ultra model is the most high-end device in the line-up, and a camera upgrade to the series would help it stand out from the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Plus. The latest leak by Ice Universe on Weibo claims that the S25 Ultra's camera will go for a quad-camera layout, and the ultra-wide will see some significant upgrades.
The ultra-wide unit currently sports a 12MP sensor but will soon be upgraded to 50MP. A similar upgrade will follow for the 3x camera, which previously used a 10MP. This change is huge given that the sensors are outdated, as they have not changed noticeably since the S21 Ultra.
With a 50MP telephoto camera and 5x optical zoom, Samsung might better compete with the Google Pixel 8 Pro, which offers a 48MP sensor with 5x optical zoom functionality. A 200MP primary camera will pave the way for some significant improvements in Ultra's camera performance, as the company could introduce new tweaks. The higher megapixel count will allow for better low-light photography while keeping the details alive and less noisy.
The S24 Ultra currently boasts a 200MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. It also includes a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, so if comparisons are to be drawn, the change will bring significant improvements in picture quality. Given how Samsung's Ultra series offers one of the highest-quality cameras, it would not be a surprise if the upcoming sequel outperforms the predecessor in terms of its camera capabilities.
We anticipate that the S25 Ultra will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor and run the One UI 7 update, based on Android 15. We also expect the flagship series to arrive with the AI feature upgrades to compete against Apple's upcoming iOS 18 update. Samsung might confirm its camera plans for the device with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. Until then, any leaks or reports should be taken with a grain of salt.
