Samsung announced its Galaxy S24 slightly earlier on January 17, with pre-orders commencing on the same day. A slew of effective strategies has allowed the Korean giant to garner more shipments from its latest flagship series than the previous Galaxy S23 family. According to the latest data, for the 5 months that started in November, the newer models have witnessed a 13 percent uptick in panel shipments, signaling that these handsets are more coveted by customers worldwide.
Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S24 Ultra made up the bulk of those panel shipments, with a 46 percent market share
Ever since the Galaxy S24 lineup’s inception, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has revealed in its latest data that Samsung’s latest offerings have outpaced its direct predecessors, with the new models running laps around the Galaxy S22 range. In January 2024, the Galaxy S24 family saw panel shipments that were 21 percent higher than the Galaxy S23 and a whopping 66 percent higher than the Galaxy S22. The refinements made to the latest smartphones have impressed customers to the point that they want to pursue an upgrade.
To sweeten the deal, Samsung also provided some pre-orders and extra credit to those wanting to become early adopters of the Galaxy S24 series, so that might have also played a hand in bumping up those panel shipments. For March, DSCC reports that display shipments were 13 percent higher than the Galaxy S23 and an impressive 47 percent higher than the Galaxy S22. As for why Samsung is experiencing more success with the latest launch, the report provides the following reasons:
“The pace of double-digit growth for the S24 series versus the S23 series is due to several factors. These factors include the larger displays at similar price points to the S23 series when launched, a LTPO backplane for all S24 models, strong pre-orders due to very aggressive promotions and the Galaxy AI feature, which Samsung highlighted during their Unpacked Event. Galaxy AI is comprised of four software models which include Google’s Gemini Pro, Gemini Nano and Imagen 2, combined with Samsung’s in-house developed Gauss.
Gemini is a generative AI language model mainly used for language related services such as document summarization, translation, search and chat recommendations. Gauss is in charge of voice recognition, interpretation and translation functions that are available in 13 languages. Google has said that Samsung will be one of the first partners to test Gemini Ultra, the largest and most capable Gemini model, before it’s made broadly available to developers and enterprises sometime later this year.”
Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup of devices also gets discounted much quicker than its competitors, which may entice customers to pick up one of these as their daily driver. While Samsung is mounting a strong comeback with the Galaxy S24 family, it remains to be seen if this momentum will be carried in the coming months. Remember, Apple dethroned its biggest rival in this category to become the largest smartphone vendor in 2023, so we will see if the Korean giant can retake its lost crown.
