It appears that some Galaxy S24 Ultra users are running into hardware issues with their phone cameras. Users have started reporting that the images on the screen go through a shift when they are switching between different lenses on the phone. The issue was first spotted by a Twitter user, and since its discovery, it has been confirmed as a hardware problem by the official Samsung Service Center. Although I did not receive my unit at the time of writing, I do know some people who are experiencing the same issue.
The first batch of Galaxy S24 Ultra is suffering from a hardware issue that affects the camera
For those who do not know, the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with four cameras on the back, each with a different focal length, and when taking pictures, the phone is clever enough to shift between different lenses so the right lens is being used. However, according to the report, shifting between the standard camera and the telephoto camera is causing a weird shift where the switching is not done smoothly - this is most noticeable when you are trying to focus on nearby subjects.
This image shift on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a bit hard to explain using words, but you can check out the tweet below. There is a video that showcases this strange shift in the images when using the camera and going through different focal lengths.
Anybody is facing image shift issue while zooming from 1x to 5x in #GalaxyS24Ultra?

It is also worth noting that this is not really a software issue, as Samsung officials have confirmed that it is a hardware issue that has affected many devices from the first batch (manufactured back in December 2023). Thankfully, this is still the first batch, and Samsung is going to start offering replacement Galaxy S24 Ultra devices. I am expecting that as more users get their hands on the device, more issues will start coming forward like that, and if you are facing a similar problem with the device, it is advised that you take it to the Samsung official center and get it checked out.
This is also a good time to remind people not to buy phones from unofficial sellers, and if you do not have ready access to official Samsung stores, I would suggest that you pick up your brand new Galaxy S24 Ultra from a trusted source. Why? Well, if you are about to spend $1,300 and even more on a phone, you would at least need some confidence that if something goes wrong, you will not end up losing your money.
The information on this matter is scarce at the moment, but we will be sure to provide you with more details as soon as more regions start confirming that this issue exists. Until then, you can check if your Galaxy S24 Ultra has the same issue by simply switching through the lenses for it to become apparent.
