Galaxy S24 Display Issues Run Awry As More Users are Reporting Horizontal Bars and Excessive Banding

Feb 13, 2024 at 03:38am EST

The Galaxy S24 series is easily one of my favorite phone series that has come out. This is coming from a lifelong Samsung user, so obviously, there is some bias there. However, recent reports about the phone running into issues have me concerned about how Samsung is going to handle this. Ever since the launch, we have heard about how the phone has run into issues with the camera, and now, there are more users reporting some display issues with the phone. I am just hoping that this is a software issue.

The Galaxy S24 issues are piling up and Samsung has started to issue replacement units to the complainants

Several users have started reporting that the display on the new Galaxy S24 series is running into some issues that are random at best. Several of the units that people have received show a grainy texture, which appears more on a grey and dark background. Several Reddit users have come forward with their concerns. One user even put their Ultra variant under a 400x OM microscope, and that showed how teh subpixel intensity is not uniform at 10% brightness, with improvements coming at 30% and almost going away at 50% brightness. Keep in mind that this is a hardware issue, and users are already going for replacement units.

In addition to the grainy texture, some users have reported seeing three horizontal bars on their Galaxy S24 devices when the phone is running at a lower brightness. This is not as common as the issue that we have discussed above, but it would still worry a lot of people, especially if you're spending a lot of money on a device. Some users have even reported excessive banding when they are viewing images that have gradients in them. We are unclear as to whether this is a hardware issue or a software issue, but we will keep you posted as soon as there is an update from Samsung on this precarious situation.

Have you ordered a Galaxy S24 for yourself and are you running into the same issues as other people? Please let us know how your experience has been so far. Hopefully, Samsung will soon come up with a clarification because the new phones don't come for cheap and if there are issues with the devices, then I would expect Samsung to quickly start sorting things out before they get out of hand.
