Apple introduced a stem-like design to its AirPods line when it introduced the first-generation model back in 2016, alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Since then, various competitors have launched their own version of wireless earbuds boasting the same stem-like design. According to the latest leak, even Samsung has given in and plans to bring a similar aesthetic to its upcoming Galaxy Buds 3 Pro.
A redesign of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro means that users get to enjoy upgraded features, such as clearer audio quality
The stem design has been retained for every one of Apple’s AirPods models, though the ‘Pro’ versions have seen the length of the stem reduce by a fraction. According to @evleaks, the design of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro will be similar, but before Apple’s loyal customer base starts clamoring that the Korean giant copied its competitor, let us see why we are looking at this image in the first place. It obviously looks like Samsung had little choice but to switch to a stem-style design, as it will give the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro more features compared to the traditional look.
For instance, the existence of a stem means that users can experience clearer call quality as the microphone will now be placed closer to the mouth. Additionally, this design can deliver better stability, meaning that the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro can provide a more reliable fit in the ear without moving around. After all, the last thing you want is to lose one of these valuable earbuds. Furthermore, switching to a stem-like design gives Samsung plenty of room to incorporate a bigger battery in the available space, allowing the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro to last longer.
Also, given the wave of on-device and cloud-based AI features coming to smartphones, Samsung could use this stem design to offer seamless integration with one of its high-end Galaxy devices, such as real-time translation or triggering a few functions based on accurate voice commands. There are a boatload of possibilities with what Samsung can achieve with this approach, and it looks like we might find out if the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro will deliver the same experience as Apple’s AirPods Pro.
