G.Skill unveils Trident Z5 NEO RGB DDR5 memory that can be overclocked up to 8400 MT/s despite its large 128 GB capacity.
Trident Z5 NEO RGB Hits 8400 MT/s with CL44 on Crosshair X870E APEX; One of the Very First 128 GB Memory Kits to do so
Every month or so, and sometimes even more frequently, we see G.Skill bringing faster DDR5 memories. After getting done with incredibly high memory speeds on single modules, G.Skill is aiming for higher frequencies on bigger capacity kits. This time, it has showcased a blazing-fast Trident Z5 NEO RGB memory kit with 128 GB capacity that can reach a staggering 8400 MT/s.
G.Skill has been making some good progress in delivering such speeds in capacities larger than 24 GB and 32 GB modules, and considering how difficult it is to reach 8000+ MT/s in dual DIMM configuration, the Trident Z5 NEO RGB has done an excellent job. The memory kit will be excellent for intensive workloads, especially for professionals who need the job done quickly.
Not only is achieving 8400 MT/s an impressive feat, but doing that on an AM5 motherboard is even more impressive. G.Skill used an ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E APEX motherboard with the fastest AMD Zen 5-based desktop processor, i.e., Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ensuring the memory kit can be maxed out without having to compromise much on its timings. The 8400 MT/s was achieved on CL44-58-58-94, which seems decent enough for a 128 GB configuration.
This extreme overclock achievement showcases G.SKILL's continued advancement in pushing DDR5 memory to new limits. While high-frequency memory kits have traditionally been limited to lower module capacities, this latest demonstration demonstrates that enthusiasts and professionals can now harness both blazing-fast speeds and massive memory capacity in a single kit. It provides an ideal choice for AI model development, high-resolution content creation, machine learning, and other professional workloads that demand both large memory pools and rapid memory data speeds.

As you can see from the screenshot, the memory kit also passed the RunMemtestPro tests successfully, indicating stability at 8400 MT/s. Previously, G.Skill also achieved a good 8000 MT/s with a Trident Z5 Royal kit with the same 128 GB capacity. Hence, a 400 MT/s bump in less than a month is appreciable, particularly at the same latency as before.
Just 10 days ago, the company also released the world's first large capacity 256 GB memory kit that could run at 6000 MT/s at just CL32. V-Color is also in the race and has been breaking world records when it comes to overclocking DDR5 memories. Looks like more and more RAM manufacturers are now focusing on the AM5 platform after delivering blazing fast DIMMs for the Z890.
