The unveiling of Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Revelation was easily among the top announcements of the whole Summer Game Fest 2026 week, especially for fans of the remake trilogy who had been waiting to learn the final entry's title.

Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi subsequently shared a wealth of new information about the game in various interviews. For instance, speaking to the Italian website Everyeye.it, he confirmed that some of the Weapons bosses will be optional and that players will be able to reach level 99 in Final Fantasy VII Revelation as they go through the extensive endgame content.

In this aspect, I wanted to pay homage to the original game and keep the same structure. So yes, some Weapons will be encountered and fought during the main story. Others, however, you will see in certain regions or areas of the world map, and can only be fought as optional content. They will also have their own dedicated narrative component. Yes, some will be part of the main story, while others will be optional content. I think one of the differences between Revelation and Remake/Rebirth is that the first two were designed to encourage players to replay the entire adventure on hard mode after completing it. In Revelation, it will be different. There will be several endgame contents here, unlike Remake and Rebirth.

To give a concrete example, yes, there will be Weapons and enemies even tougher than the final boss you face in the story. Examples include the Weapons themselves or the beloved Knights of the Round. Instead of pushing the player to restart the game on hard mode, Revelation will encourage them to complete all the remaining content on the world map after finishing the main story. Another thing I wanted to add is that in Remake and Rebirth, there was a level cap, but in Revelation, we will not have a level limit: players will be able to reach level 99.

It sounds like Final Fantasy VII Revelation might be the biggest title in the trilogy, perhaps even bigger than Rebirth, which could take over 160 hours for a full completionist run. The game will launch in Spring 2027 simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and Nintendo Switch 2, bolstering next year's incredible RPG slate.
