1047 Games, the studio known for making Splitgate and who are arguably more known for how its CEO Ian Proulx tried to make a statement at Summer Game Fest 2025 with a hat that fell flat, have just released their next game. No, it's not yet another iteration of Splitgate after 1047's attempt at Splitgate 2 failed drastically, it's instead a Titanfall-like movement shooter called Empulse, and it's available in early access now.
1047 Games teased Empulse earlier this year while capping off a developer update on Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, which was the final iteration of Splitgate 2 that the team landed on after its failed launch and then failed re-launch. It was fully revealed shortly after, and to its credit, made a big splash during Steam Next Fest June 2026 Edition.
The 6v6 shooter was one of the top 50 most-played demos during the festival, and according to a press release, it pulled in another 250,000 wishlists thanks to its demo's popularity. Whether those wishlists turn into actual sales, however, is still to be determined. For what it's worth, Empulse's immediate launch numbers on Steam for concurrent players are only slightly better than Splitgate's numbers right now, and quite a ways away from Splitgate's launch concurrents.
To put it into perspective, there are thousands more players in Marathon on Steam at the time of this writing, compared to Empulse. But Empulse is a new entity, and it's only been out for a couple of hours at this point. It has plenty of time to have a strong launch day.
You can play Empulse in early access on Steam, of course, and you can also jump in on consoles on Xbox Series X/S, though you can't jump in on PS5 just yet. For that, you can thank PlayStation (or 1047, depending on how you look at it) as the game has yet to be cleared by PlayStation's certification process.
Is this on 1047 for not submitting early enough? Is it on PlayStation for taking its sweet time? Who knows, as all 1047 said on the topic is that the PS5 version is delayed "while we wait on platform certification," which definitely makes it sound like PlayStation's fault.
Regardless, if you're someone who is still begging EA to stop incubating new Titanfall projects at Respawn only to cancel them, with Empulse only setting you back $15 USD at its launch discount price, it's probably something worth checking out. Besides, anyone who seriously loves the Titanfall games should know within minutes if Empulse feels as good as the movement shooters it was inspired by.
If it does feel that good, then it's a good bet that Empulse will gain a lot of momentum in no time.
