Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will finally arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer on August 28, 2026, developer FromSoftware confirmed today. The release date reveal is welcome news for Switch 2 players who've been waiting for Elden Ring's arrival since the Switch 2 was revealed and the open-world epic was one of the biggest third-party titles set to arrive on the handheld platform.
Though the plan was to initially bring Elden Ring to Switch 2 at some point in 2025, concerns for what that version would look and run like were apparent from the earliest Switch 2 previews and made even clearer during Gamescom 2025. It was then, not the biggest shock, when FromSoftware delayed the Switch 2 version into 2026.
Signs that FromSoftware was close to fixing the frame rate issues we all saw at Gamescom 2025 first appeared earlier this year in March 2026, as new previews for the game showed a clear improvement. A retailer's (now proven to be a placeholder) July 10th release date for the game was another positive sign that things had improved, if only because the logical thinking would be that retailers would not be preparing store pages if it wasn't close to a release.
Now, thankfully, Switch 2 owners finally have a release date to look forward to, and for anyone still holding out on buying a Switch 2, they can rejoice that they'll have Elden Ring to play ahead on it before the Switch 2 gets its price hike in September 2026.
The Tarnished Edition will also arrive with new content not yet seen on any platform, which FromSoftware confirms will be paid DLC. Those new bits of content are:
- 2 new starting classes: the Knight/Knightess of Ides and a character currently referred to as the Heavy Warrior
- 4 new armor sets, two of which are tied to the new starting classes and two obtainable during the adventure
- New weapons and Ashes of War
- 3 Torrent cosmetic customization options (appearance, adornments, saddle)
- The armor set of Lucatiel of Mirrah from Dark Souls II, bridging the lore of the two titles
Players who purchase the Tarnished Edition will get all of that on top of the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. As for how much the new classes, armor sets, and weapons will cost you if you're one of the millions who has already played Elden Ring elsewhere, FromSoftware's official X (formerly Twitter) account says it'll be 550 Yen, which roughly converts to just under $4 USD. We'll update this article with official pricing once it becomes available.
