Dying Light developer Techland has revealed a new content update for Dying Light: The Beast that the studio claims is so big, it's worth replacing the standard version of the game with this new version, which will be called Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land Edition.
For those who already own Dying Light: The Beast, you don't have to do anything to get the new content. It'll be available as a free update for all existing Dying Light: The Beast players when it arrives later this week on March 26, 2026. If you've not yet dove into Techland's latest entry in its parkour zombie killing survival series, then after March 26, you'll see the Restored Land Edition available alongside other editions of the game.
Announced via IGN, the Restored Land content is for the hardcore of hardcore Dying Light fans. It adds a new challenging survival mode where resources are far more limited than ever before, because you won't be able to replay any in-world activities or events to gain their resources a second time. Looted resources don't respawn, and all of your defensive tactics aren't as powerful as they are outside of the Restored Land version of the campaign.
At the same time, zombies also don't respawn when playing through Dying Light: The Beast in its new Restored Land version. So when you kill a zombie, you can at least trust that they're dead for the rest of your run. That means that with careful resource management and combat skills, the best Dying Light players will be able to truly clear Castor Woods of its zombie infestation.
The new content also adds the option to make Restored Land even more difficult with a permadeath option. Die once, and your save file is gone; you'll have to restart the game and try again. There's also a new Roadkill Rallies mode, which puts you behind the wheel for new car challenges where you try to run over as many zombies as possible before the time runs out.
Completing the new car challenges unlocks a high-powered, armored vehicle for you to run around Castor Woods in, while completing the game in the Restored Land mode provides a few in-game markers to identify you as one of the best Dying Light players in the community. On top of the new challenges and Restored Land mode, the studio also added "new finishers, new achievements, new quest encounters, and multiple gameplay and performance improvements."
This is the latest major update Techland is delivering for Dying Light: The Beast. Back in November 2025, the studio added ray-tracing to the PC version, new game plus, and over 400 improvements. For more on Dying Light: The Beast, you can check out my review, where I praised the tried-and-true parkour mechanics and zombie killing, but felt disappointed by how disjointed The Beast felt, and how its setting of Castor Woods at launch hampered your experience of the best parts of Dying Light's gameplay.
