It’s time to go medieval on some demon asses. Over the past few weeks, rumors emerged that a reveal for the next entry in the Doom series was imminent, and today at the Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft and id Software revealed Doom: The Dark Ages.

As the title implies, Doom: The Dark Ages is taking a full-on fantasy approach. We seem to be playing as a new version of the Doomslayer, or at least one decked out in a medieval-tinged suit of armor. It looks like one of the big new mechanics now is a chainsaw shield, which can be used to block enemy attacks, as well as shred unfortunate demons. We also get a peek at a weapon that uses skulls for ammo, a dragon mount, a giant medieval mech, and more. You can check out the first trailer for Doom: The Dark Ages for yourself, below.
