Even though Alan Dye, the architect of Apple's Liquid Glass UI, has left for greener pastures, a new report asserts that Apple will not abandon its new design language with the upcoming iOS 27.
Apple's upcoming iOS 27 update will focus on AI enhancements and stability improvements rather than implementing a comprehensive UI overhaul
When Dye left Apple for Meta in December 2025, many expected Apple to tone down its Liquid Glass UI or abandon it altogether. After all, Apple's design language has attracted its fair share of criticism over the past few months, especially on legibility concerns, with critics accusing the Cupertino giant of preferring form over substance.
Now, however, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has clarified that Apple will not institute any substantial UI-related changes with the upcoming iOS 27 update, going on to note:
"Let's not forget that Apple's user interface manager did not develop the iOS 26 interface himself and did not unilaterally decide on this direction. The company is still very attached to it."
Instead, Apple is likely to focus on introducing stability improvements with the upcoming update cadence. Also, with the iOS 27 update, Apple is planning to launch a dedicated Siri chatbot that will run on Google's own TPUs and cloud infrastructure, possibly leased by Apple.
According to Gurman, the Siri chatbot will be baked into Apple's software rather than debuting as a standalone app, allowing it to search the web, generate content, including images, provide coding assistance, summarize and analyze information, as well as upload files.
It will be able to use personal data to complete tasks and sport a substantially improved search feature. The iPhone maker is also designing a feature that will let the Siri chatbot view open windows and on-screen content, as well as adjust device features and settings.
According to Gurman, the iOS 27 will arrive in its beta form this summer. The chatbot Siri will reportedly leverage a much more advanced version of Google's Gemini model, known internally as Apple Foundation Models version 11. Gurman added that "the model is expected to be competitive with Gemini 3 and significantly more capable than one supporting the iOS 26.4 Siri."
Elsewhere, the Cupertino giant has apparently toned down its plans for a revamp of its Health app with the iOS 27 update cycle after the recent disappointing performance resulting from Apple Health's integration with ChatGPT Health, which offered erroneous and inconsistent recommendations.
