Not just Optiscaler, now DLSS Swapper can also replace FSR 3.1 with FSR 4 for superior visual quality in FSR 3.1-supported games.

Replacing FSR 3.1 DLL Files With FSR 4 DLLs Reportedly Works; Developer Says It Didn't Expect It To Work

AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 4, aka FSR 4, is currently one of the most refined versions of AMD's upscaling feature for RDNA 4 GPUs. To enable the FSR 4, the games need to support it officially, and it has to be integrated by the developers into the game engine. There aren't a lot of games that currently support FSR 4 natively, but there is a workaround through which gamers can enable FSR 4 by replacing older FSR versions.

Many gamers use tools like Optiscaler and DLSS Swapper to swap older versions of upscaling technologies such as DLSS, XeSS, and FSR with the latest versions. Optiscaler is currently the only tool that supports swapping FSR 3.1 with FSR 4. However, it appears that DLSS Swapper can do the same job. DLSS Swapper integration works a bit differently than Optiscaler, and can usually swap older upscalers with newer ones through an easy-to-understand interface. Optiscaler, on the other hand, requires you to copy the files to the game folder and run the batch application to enable the swap.

Similarly, one can reportedly swap the DLL files of the game with DLSS Swapper and replace the FSR 3.1 DLLs with FSR 4 DLLs. The game needs to support FSR 3.1 natively to enable FSR 4, and of course, you also need the latest Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs. The DLSS Swapper developer reported that one user was able to get FSR 4 working through this method, but he didn't really think this would work.

This is good news if you own an RX 9000 GPU and games that already ship with FSR 3.1. We are yet to hear more such reports since it was thought that this wouldn't work, and most users don't really talk about it. We already have Optiscaler offering the solution since its latest update, but we would love to see an official update to DLSS Swapper so that it becomes even easier to swap FSR 3.1 with FSR 4 without having to manually swap DLL files.
