It's Destiny 2's death day, as Bungie delivers the game's final major update titled Monument of Triumph. The update is now live across all platforms, and Destiny fans are heading to the game in droves to celebrate the long life this game has had and be a part of its final update. Though the game will stay online for the foreseeable future, this is the end of the Destiny franchise for now.

On Steam, over 160K players have jumped in to be a part of the game's death day and check out everything that Bungie jammed into this final update. Highlights of the update include (but are not limited to) the return of Sparrow racing, the return of the Director to help you look at the whole of the Destiny universe, the introduction of Distortions to make Patrol mode more engaging, an overhaul to Gambit, and an overhaul for the Portal.

There's understandably a lot that went into this update as it's meant to try and cap off over a decade of Destiny and nearly a decade of Destiny 2. With the way the last few years have gone for the game, it's not the biggest surprise that it's all coming to an end, though it is nice to see its community come together for one final celebration of it all.

Of course, it's not likely that the franchise will entirely disappear after today. Bungie is still going to be around as it puts its focus on Marathon and finding what else comes next in a post-Destiny 2 world. There's a good chance it could return to the Destiny franchise with another kind of game set in its universe, even if that's not necessarily what fans want, since most would likely just opt for Destiny 3.

Since that doesn't seem to be on the table at the moment, however, a smaller-scaled title is not out of the question. Or, Bungie will develop a new IP and move on from the series. They've done it before and can no doubt do it again. The only concern is whether its new parent company will give it the time and space to do so, or if we're looking at Bungie getting shut down by PlayStation in the near future.
