The user will now get a free Wireview Pro 2 for his ROG Astral RTX 5090, whose Wireview Pro connector was melted due to ignoring the temperature warning.
Der8auer Appreciates The Effort and Dedication of the ROG Astral RTX 5090 User and is Sending Him The Latest Wireview Pro 2
Yesterday, we reported that a user had his Wireview Pro connector melt due to high temperatures. The user reportedly shunt-modded his ROG Astral RTX 5090 and also flashed the MSI RTX 5090 Lightning Z 1000W BIOS to increase the power limit on the GPU. Due to this configuration, his Wireview Pro gave him high temperature warnings, which the user ignored, and this resulted in Wireview Pro connector melting as well as damaging his cable.
His GPU and PSU remain unaffected, but without the Wireview Pro device, it will be difficult to know metrics like power consumption and temperature. Now Der8auer has stepped in and has asked the user to send him his shipping details. Der8auer is a prominent German overclocker who has been digging into the 16-pin connector melting issue since the beginning. He said he loves the effort and dedication of the user to increase the power limit for higher performance, despite ignoring the temperature warning.
Unlike Wireview Pro, Wireview Pro 2 brings more features and is more effective in protecting against connector melting. The device uses an active fan for continuous cooling and also has safety and control features, such as an automatic system shutdown when the power limit is exceeded. It's priced at around $140, which is significantly higher than the price of Wireview Pro.
Fortunately, the user didn't have any serious damage and can simply swap his Wireview Pro with the Pro 2 device to protect against such instances. However, if he pushes his GPU beyond what it can handle, the Wireview Pro 2 won't guarantee absolute protection. Wireview Pro 2 still remains one of the best devices for protection against connector melting, and if your system boasts an RTX 5090, it's recommended to add it to mitigate the issue.
