Now that The Callisto Protocol has launched, fans can look forward to the other big sci-fi horror game of the season – the Dead Space remake from Montreal-based Motive Studios. We’ve only seen a relatively limited amount of gameplay thus far, but today, IGN has rolled out the first 18-minutes of the game, which provides a great opportunity to compare the original and remake with the proverbial fine-tooth comb.

Obviously, the visuals have been enhanced in a big way, with characters models, environments, and lighting looking top-notch. Longtime fans will also immediately notice that Isaac now actually speaks up for himself instead of just sitting there like a post when people talk to him. Fans will also note that a number of iconic moments have been tweaked – the way your first crewmate dies and your run for the elevator are now changed to maximize scares. While the new Dead Space is staying true to the spirit of the original, it’s clear it’s a true remake. Check out the footage below.
