A Corsair GPU power cable, labeled 'ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 600W 12V-2x6', is plugged into a PCIe connector.

Corsair has just launched its ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 600W cable for 16-pin GPUs with over-temperature protection to safeguard your graphics cards.

Corsair Is The Latest Manufacturer To Offer A Safer Cable With Built-In OTP To Safeguard 16-Pin GPUs

Running a 16-pin graphics card has become a scary ordeal. You will constantly be checking real-time monitoring utilities, the physical connectors, and your PC for fluctuations because 16-pin cards have a higher chance of dying due to the flimsy nature of the connector. Every day, you hear an RTX 5090 or a similar 16-pin graphics card card either burning up or dying due to an unchecked connector interface.

Many manufacturers have come forward with their own 16-pin cables to mitigate these issues. MSI, ASRock, ASUS, and other leading brands all have some type of cable and software utility that offers a safeguard for your expensive graphics cards.

Now, Corsair has also entered the room with its own 16-pin cable, which it calls "ThermalProtect". This is a PCIe 5.1 compliant cable based on the 12V-2x6 standard and is designed to support up to 600W power.

Corsair says that its ThermalProtect Cable is unique in the sense that it features additional OTP (Over Temperature Protection) within the cable. With OTP, Corsair is able to actively monitor the 12V-2x6 pin connector. The OTP is housed nicely within the 30mm cable comb, monitors the cable, and, in the case of extreme temperature, it simply turns off the GPU to avoid potential damage.

The best part about the cable is that it is compatible with any PSU that uses a native 12V-2x6 interface. This allows Corsair to address a broad market rather than making the cable exclusive to its own PSU line.

The Corsair ThermalProtect 16-Pin cable comes in both black and white colors. It is 650mm long and has gray tips that let you know that the connector is properly plugged in. The cable is now available through Corsair's store and leading retailers for a price of $24.99.
