Verizon has just taken a laudable step towards making amends after its network outage caused havoc across the US on Wednesday.

Verizon commits to a $20 credit for those affected by this week's network outage

If you were affected by Wednesday's network outage, Verizon will soon send you a text message, after which you can log into the myVerizon app to redeem the $20 credit. Verizon says that it will contact its business customers directly to explain how to move forward with their credit redemptions.

Verizon does take pains to note that the $20 credit is not "meant to make up for what happened," but that "it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us."

Finally, Verizon says that if you are still experiencing residual network issues, you should restart your device.

Do note that Verizon's $20 credit is 4x the amount that AT&T offered to its customers back in February 2024 when it suffered a sizable network outage, and is sufficient to cover "multiple days of service."

For the benefit of those who might not be aware, Verizon's network services went down at around noon on Wednesday.

While initial reports also flagged network issues with AT&T and T-Mobile, both soon issued a clarification that their networks were operating normally, essentially pinning the entire blame on Verizon, which was only able to meaningfully restore connectivity by around 22:00 ET.

In the interim, people were left contending with zero connectivity and a "SOS" label on the status bar of their Apple iPhones that typically only activates in areas of zero network coverage.
