Even though a release window has been announced, there's very little we currently know about the Nintendo NX. Rumors circulating online often state contradictory facts, so it's very hard to trust any of them fully. One of the more interesting ones from the past weeks, however, has received more credibility today thanks to a recent finding.
NeoGAF forums member Atheerios has recently discovered something interesting by taking a look at the US trademark for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, launching on both Wii U and Nintendo NX. The trademark mentions both video games cartridges and video game discs.
What makes this interesting is that there's no mention of cartridges in any Wii U trademark, and no mention of video game discs in any 3DS trademark, so their inclusion in the Breath of the Wild trademark definitely bears some meaning, strongly hinting at the Nintendo NX's hybrid nature that's been suggested in the past few months.
As already mentioned, this isn't the first time that it's been suggested that the Nintendo NX will use cartridges. Two months ago, it's been confirmed that Macronix, the company which supplies Nintendo with ROM chips, is expecting a period of growth around the time the NX launches. Coupled with the news that the company was testing a newer line of ROM chips, this suggests that the growth isn't expected for the production of chips to be used in Nintendo 3DS cartridges.
The Nintendo NX launches on March 2017 in all regions. More on the console will be coming in the next few months, so stay tuned for all the latest news on Nintendo's mysterious next console.
