Base iPhone 17 model to feature the same 6.3-inch display size as the base Pro version

Apple is making some drastic changes with its forthcoming iPhone 17 lineup, and this time around, the base model is also reported to come with a major change on the front. Currently, the base version of the iPhone 17 comes with a 6.1-inch display, and if the latest reports are anything to go by, the company could slightly increase the screen size to 6.3 inches.

The iPhone 17 base model will feature a larger 6.3-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, but it will not use an LTPO panel

In a post shared on the Chinese social media platform, Weibo, leaker Digital Chat Station claims that Apple's entry-level iPhone 17 model will be equipped with a larger 6.3-inch display, up from 6.1 inches. The account has shared credible information in the past related to Apple's unreleased products, which gives us an indication that the news has heft to it.

This is not the first time that we are hearing details on Apple's plans to equip the base model of the iPhone 17 with a slightly larger display. Counterpoint Research VP and prominent display analyst Ross Young claims the same, suggesting that the display on the base model of the iPhone 17 will be just as big as the smaller iPhone 17 Pro.

Young claims that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature the following display sizes:

Other than the display size, the iPhone 17 is reported to come with the same external design, but there are various other aspects that the company could upgrade. This time around, we are also expecting the base iPhone 17 model to come with a higher 120Hz refresh rate, but there could be a minor catch. The higher refresh rate display will not be an LTPO panel like the 'Pro' models, which means that the refresh rate would remain stagnant rather than varying, depending on the content and app you are using.

Additionally, the front camera on the iPhone 17 will be upgraded to 24MP compared to the 12MP on the iPhone 16. Internally, the device is also slated to feature an A18 chip for enhanced performance and better power efficiency. To future-proof the handset, Apple could also equip the base model with 8GB of RAM, which is the same as the 'Pro' models. This will allow the device to handle complex on-device AI models, which the company is working on.

Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 lineup later this year in September, possibly alongside the new AirPods Pro 3. Do you think Apple will equip the base iPhone 17 model with an Always-On display?
