AT&T new Wireless Account Lock feature

Companies are increasingly looking for ways to give more control to users and to protect their privacy. This is especially the case with the telecommunication service providers who are taking more initiatives to ensure greater digital security. AT&T is also making such protective efforts and recently launched a new feature called the Wireless Account Lock. This feature is meant to give users more control over their accounts and block any unauthorized changes. This includes any transfer of numbers, SIM swaps, device switches, or any changes made to the billing.

AT&T is working aggressively to protect its users from fraudulent actions that compromise either their devices or data. To further its efforts, it has now introduced a new feature called the Account Lock, where users would be able to block any changes made to the account once the capability is activated, unless the lock is turned off by the user. This security feature upgrade is to protect against SIM swapping, which is usually a technique used by scammers to get access to sensitive information and online accounts.

Scammers usually are able to intercept by posing as the user in question and claiming the phone has been damaged and the number needs to be transferred to a new SIM. When this process is successfully completed, they are able to hijack all your personal information. Account Lock can be enabled through the myAT&T app and would help achieve data protection and keep your phone number safe.

When the Wireless Account Lock is activated, it puts a barrier on your account where many of the key actions cannot be performed unless the feature is disabled manually through the app, which would require physical access to the device. The lock would prevent against swapping SIM, transferring number, adding a new line, making changes to the billing account, adding authorized users, changing phone number, or even upgrading your device, giving you basically full control over your account.

AT&T's new feature is not limited to postpaid users but extends to enterprise customers and prepaid users, so a wide range of subscribers are offered this protection. The carrier emphasizes how they would never call a user to disable their account, and if a request like this is being made, chances are it is a scam. AT&T, by rolling out this data protection feature, is giving users more control over their mobile security, which would go a long way.
