Say goodbye to the 27-inch OLED monitors if you have been waiting for 24-25" OLED displays for a long time.
ASUS Shows Off a New ROG OLED Gaming Monitor, Boasting 24.5-inch Display Size and Refresh Rate of Up To 540 Hz
The ideal eSports display is here, and ASUS is the first manufacturer to bring it to the mainstream market. The company just dropped a teaser for the world's first 24.5-inch OLED display on its official ROG Global X handle, revealing some specifications for the monitor. If you have been following reports on smaller OLED panels, you might be aware that the current market doesn't have any 24- or 25-inch OLED conventional gaming monitors.
In previous reports, we did hear that some manufacturers were preparing for a 24 or 25-inch OLED monitor, but until now, no one has released such a display. ASUS changed this forever by teasing its first eSports gaming monitor that brings all these qualities. As per the short video, the monitor boasts up to 540 Hz of refresh rate at a 24.5-inch screen size. While ASUS didn't disclose the resolution, it's likely a 1080p OLED gaming monitor, as 1080p is considered the ideal resolution at that display size, particularly for competitive gaming.
With a 540 Hz refresh rate, it's going to be extremely smooth in gameplay, allowing professional players to have the fluidity they always wanted, but this time on an OLED panel, and not on a conventional IPS or VA display. OLEDs have way better visual quality than IPS or VA; moreover, they offer deeper blacks that allow better immersion and richer details. These qualities do help in gaming, but we want to know whether ASUS has deployed Samsung's 3rd gen or the 4th gen OLED panel technology or an OLED from BOE.
Nonetheless, it's great to see that we are looking at a higher refresh rate than was previously reported. Samsung was reportedly developing a 1080p OLED panel in the 300-360 Hz range, but we got a faster panel. We will update you once we know more about the new ROG 24.5" OLED monitor in the coming days.
