ASUS Brings Back 2006 ROG Crosshair Motherboard Memories by Dropping a Teaser for its Upcoming 20th Anniversary Edition

The launch of the 2006 ROG Crosshair motherboard was the beginning of ASUS's enthusiast-grade ROG sub-brand, which has expanded to various hardware and peripheral categories. Interestingly, ASUS isn't just expanding its ROG lineup by introducing newer components, but also releasing hardware that bring resemblance to the iconic ROG hardware launched in the 2000s.

ASUS recently dropped a teaser on its social handles, showcasing an ROG motherboard. However, it's not just another ROG hardware you see on the shelves. It's the 20th Anniversary Edition motherboard, which resembles the 2006 ROG Crosshair motherboard design. If you have been an enthusiast since the early 2000s, you might have seen that motherboard as it was one of a kind, featuring fully copper heatsinks that joined the VRM, northbridge, and the southbridge for enthusiast-grade performance.

It was considered one of the best hardware releases from the company as a copper heatsink was rare, particularly with connecting heat pipes that would let enthusiasts push their CPUs to their full potential. The newly teased motherboard showcases the exact same copper heatsink, but with the official ROG logo, which was absent from the 2006 edition. Moreover, there's a small display at the bottom of the heatsink, and if you look closely, the heatsink also mentions "2006" explicitly.

While ASUS didn't disclose any specifications or socket/chipset details, considering that ASUS's 2006 ROG Crosshair edition was for the AMD processors, the 20th Anniversary edition will likely bring the AM5 socket. Still, that remains a speculation, but given that the recent EEC filing also mentioned "X870E" chipset, it appears that it will indeed be an AM5 motherboard. We will wait for ASUS's ROG event on June 1 and the Computex presentation, where ASUS might showcase this motherboard publicly.
