ASUS introduced its first B850 BTF motherboard as was spotted on the official website, featuring a fully white design with connectors at the back.
ASUS Starts BTF Design With B850 Chipset, Offering a High-Power 600W Slot for High-End Graphics Cards
The connector-less motherboard design isn't yet popular enough since the design introduces compatibility issues with most PC cases. Also, there aren't many connector-less motherboards that would cater to the needs of users with different budgets. Despite that, motherboard vendors are trying their best to bring their own custom designs for enthusiasts who would like to build a neat and clean PC build that doesn't show anything except their components.
ASUS's BTF project introduced the same concept a while ago but didn't make it to AMD's 800 series motherboards, although the company did make a Z890 BTF motherboard for Intel. At the end of last year, it did promise to bring X870/X870E BTF motherboard models, but instead of these chipsets, the company released a B850 chipset BTF motherboard.
The motherboard is the TUF Gaming B850-BTF WiFi W, which offers modern features and all the connectors on the back. This will help users hide all the cables properly, but the motherboard starts to look interesting once you see the High-Power Graphics Card slot on the front. It's not unique to this model but offers a highly convenient design that can technically power even a high-end graphics card like the GeForce RTX 5090 without needing a dedicated 12-pin power connector.
This slot can feed up to 600W of power to the GPU, but there is a catch; you can only use ASUS's BTF graphics card like the RTX 5090 BTF, but that edition hasn't been released yet. We do have an RTX 4090 BTF but if ASUS releases the RTX 5090 BTF in the future, it will be ready for this motherboard as well. If you are thinking about where the motherboard gets so much power, then the answer lies at the back.
You will find the 12V-2x6 connector at the back that will do the job of transferring the power to the high-power GPU slot at the front. For other cable connections, you will find the ATX and EPS connectors at the back along with SATA ports, fan headers, and miscellaneous ports.
As far as other features of the TUF Gaming B850-BTF WiFi W go, the motherboard offers a decent 14+2+1 power phase VRM with 80A DrMOS. The motherboard allows overclocking of both CPU and memory and can support up to 8000 MT/s of memory speed when coupled with Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series processors.
The pricing and availability aren't known yet, but this should be hitting the shelves soon. As far as the X870/X870E BTF motherboards are concerned, the original report said that we would see them at the launch of Ryzen 9 9000X3D processors, but the CPUs have already launched. So, maybe a couple of weeks later?
