ASUS is once again in talks after allegedly refusing to repair a motherboard, citing the user's decision not to opt for the repair.

ASUS Lists "Customer Decides Not to Repair" as the Reason for Not Fixing His Motherboard; Allegedly Asks $45 for Minor Cosmetic Repair

This isn't the first time ASUS has been in the discussion for not honoring the RMA service. We have such cases countless times, and whether it is the motherboard or the GPU, several users have reported similar incidents. In some instances, ASUS has reportedly asked for thousands of dollars to repair or replace the GPUs, while in some cases, it simply refused the RMA request due to cosmetic defects, which don't even affect the functionality of the device.

The new case was presented by the Redditor u/MoumousMeow, who says that ASUS refused to repair his motherboard and lied that the user didn't want to proceed with the repair. The screenshot reveals that ASUS has allegedly blamed the user for not opting for the repair, while mentioning that the motherboard can't boot up or power on in the brackets. So, no components were replaced, and the user got back his motherboard without any repairs.

They actually mentioned it, a cosmetic damage, not affecting function, asking for $45 to fix it, I said just fix the reported issue, then here we are.

The user appears to be quite frustrated and says he is "nauseated" by just looking at the ASUS logo. He says he is even selling his ASUS ROG Ally because he just can't take it anymore. Moreover, he mentioned that ASUS allegedly asked $45 for repairing a minor cosmetic damage on this motherboard, but he refused and asked for the actual repair instead. This might be the reason why ASUS refused the fix, as we have seen in previous reports that ASUS refuses to entertain RMA requests if there are minor scratches/defects on the devices, despite having no impact on the functionality.

...They pointed out the cosmetic damage, (so minor I don’t even know what they are talking about) i said just fix the issue, they replied that the issue has been fixed, which is a lie.

The point is, they ignored my reported issue, changed it to “system no boot”, then claim “customer decides not to repair”, while customer service told me “the issue is fixed”.

What cosmetic damage they found is unrelated to their audacity to do it.

After Gamers Nexus called out ASUS for such pathetic behavior, ASUS did release a statement, stating that it will no longer automatically offer cosmetic repair quotations if the defects don't affect the functionality. Yet, the current case indicates that the same practices may still be occurring.
