ASUS is celebrating its 20th ROG Anniversary in style with the launch of the ROG Crosshair 2006 motherboard, featuring modern X870E & AM5 specs.
ASUS Just Launched A New X870E "AM5" Motherboard That Features A Design Matching Its 20-Year-Old & First ROG Board
The ASUS Crosshair was the company's first "Crosshair" motherboard, a name that went on to become synonymous with high-end ROG "AMD" designs. The board featured the AM2 socket, & a massive heat-sink array, all copper, and a unique color theme. This was before ASUS's ROG products started going after a red and black color palette.
Today, ASUS is launching its brand new "ROG Crosshair 2006" motherboard. This motherboard uniquely celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Although it says 2006, the new motherboard is a top-notch, & very powerful design, featuring the AM5 socket along with the top X870E chipset.
But before going into the specs, let's talk about the main focus of this motherboard, which is its design.
ASUS adopts the full retro aesthetic of its first Crosshair motherboard, with full copper heatsinks & heat-pipe, the same white and blue colors on the DDR5 DIMM slots, PCIe slots, and USB/SATA ports, the iconic "Republic of Gamers" logo on the PCH, but this time with a 3D touch to it, and a large copper backplate. There are also several EZ DIY features on the board, which make installing, upgrading, or removing components from the motherboard super easy.
With the design covered, let's talk about the specifications. The ASUS ROG Crosshair 2006 motherboard is powered by a massive 20 (110A) + 2 (110A) +2 (80A) phase VRM design, which is cooled by those large and finned copper heat-sinks. Four DDR5 DIMM slots support up to 256 GB capacities and up to 9600 MT/s+ speeds, along with support for ASUS's AEMP II and NitroPath technologies.
There are a total of five M.2 slots, two of which are PCIe 5.0 and three are PCIe 4.0. The primary PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot comes with a 2-inch OLED display, which showcases the same "ROG" G-Cube, and is housed on a top-notch copper heatsink with a heatpipe solution.
The motherboard features a 2oz / 8-layer PCB, the ASUS AIO Q-connector, which allows cable-free connection of ASUS's AIO coolers to its motherboards, a strong IO design with 2 USB4 ports that support Quick Charging, and dual LAN (10GbE + 2.5GbE).
The ASUS ROG Crosshair 2006 motherboard is truly a celebration of the Crosshair brand and features a fantastic design that takes us back to the good old days.
The motherboard retains the ATX form factor and will be priced around $750 US, which is actually cheaper than ASUS's newest ROG DDR5 memory kit. The availability is expected in the coming months in limited units.
