ASUS has shown off its next-gen W890 Workstation motherboard featuring the LGA 4710 socket for Intel's Granite Rapids-WS CPUs.

ASUS Is Ready For Intel's Next-Gen Granite Rapids-WS Xeon CPUs With Its Flagship Pro WS W890 Motherboard

One of ASUS's biggest surprises at CES was not covered by many, including us. The surprise we are talking about is their next-gen PRO Workstation motherboard, which has now been shown off by ASUS itself. The motherboard is as impressive as one can expect, and it builds upon the Pro WS W790-SAGE SE, the last-gen offering.

Coming straight to the specifications, the ASUS PRO Workstation motherboard is based on the W890 chipset and features the LGA 4710 socket, which will house the next-generation Intel Granite Rapids-WS Xeon CPU family. The motherboard has no official name, but we can expect ASUS to call it the Pro WS W890-SAGE.

The ASUS PRO W890 motherboard has eight DDR5 DIMM slots and features two distinct platform options: a Mainstream option with 4-channel memory support and up to 80 PCIe Gen5 lanes & an Expert option with 8-channel memory support and up to 96 PCIe Gen5 lanes. The ASUS motherboard is going for the "Expert" option with lots of high-end capabilities such as eight DDR5 DIMM slots, which will support up to 2 TB of memory capacities, a total of 7 PCIe x16 slots, all with reinforced steel slot design and equipping up to 7 single-slot GPUs or four dual-slot blower AICs.

For M.2, the motherboard has four dedicated Gen5 x4 slots, cooled by dedicated heatsinks. The Intel W890 chipset is cooled off by a large active fan. Other storage options include four SATA III ports and two SlimSAS ports. The power delivery is intense with four 8-pin connectors, two 4-pin connectors, & a large 24-pin ATX connector. There are easy Debugging features such as a Power On/Off button, a reset button, and a DEBUG LED. Besides these, the motherboard has strong IO with at least 6 USB Type-A, 2 USB Type-C, and three LAN ports.

The motherboard also comes with additional active cooling over the VRMs and a solid heatsink design. We expect the motherboard to cost around $1500-$2000 US if not higher, and will be available soon as ASUS themselves state that the "Future of workstations is almost here". Interestingly, they also list the board for their ExpertCenter Pro ET900N G3 AI Supercomputer, which features the NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GB300 Superchip.
