ASUS ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card is showcased with the text 'ASUS Graphics Cards 30th Anniversary Edition' below.

ASUS does ASUS things. While this isn't the costliest RTX 5090 GPU from ASUS, it's still too expensive for its performance.

ASUS Starts Taking Pre-Orders for ROG Matrix RTX 5090 GPU for $3999; Twice the Price of Reference Edition

We are not even surprised that one of the custom ASUS editions is priced way over the MSRP, but it just defeats the whole point of having a good value. While the GeForce RTX 5090 is still way over its MSRP at most retailers, you will mostly see them in the $2500-$3000 price range, except for premium ASUS editions, which go beyond $3K.

ASUS's latest ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090 edition, which was unveiled two months ago is now available on ASUS US store for pre-orders. If you think it will cost less than the ROG Astral, then you are mistaken. The ROG Astral is one of the most expensive premium editions, but the ROG Matrix just took its place at a whopping $3999. This is twice the official MSRP of the reference edition RTX 5090 GPUs, and for this price, you can buy two RTX 5090s (if you can find them at MSRP) or at least an RTX 5090+RTX 5080 combo at the current pricing trends.

Not surprisingly, for $4000, you can buy a whole pre-built gaming PC, featuring RTX 5090 and the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor, with 32 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD. That makes much more sense, but it looks like ASUS knows that there are some die-hard ROG Matrix design fans who will be willing to pay double the price.

The ROG Matrix edition features a triple-fan design and boasts both traditional 12V-2x6 connectivity and BTF interface for ASUS BTF motherboards. On the right edge, you will find the circular frame, boasting customizable ARGB Aura Lighting, and the overall appearance does look quite appealing. However, unlike most RTX 5090 GPUs, this one can draw up to 800W since it boasts both types of power interface.

Keep in mind that it's not just the design due to which it is priced at such a high price, but it's also because it'sa limited edition, and there will be only 1,000 units in total for shipping worldwide.
