Fresh details and apparent in-game dialogue for Assassin's Creed Hexe have surfaced online courtesy of leaker Rogue, with additional context from j0nathan, offering juicy details about the next installment in Ubisoft's flagship action/adventure series.

The game's protagonist appears to go by Anika, with "Elsa" reportedly serving as a placeholder name, as "Jora" did for Eivor during the development of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, according to j0nathan. The big twist is that it seems Anika is a descendant of Claudia Auditore, Ezio's sister, which provides the narrative thread connecting Assassin's Creed Hexe to the Italian Brotherhood's legacy. The game's primary location is Würzburg, a city in Bavaria historically associated with some of the most brutal witch trials of the 16th century, though additional locations beyond Würzburg are planned. Rogue specifically mentions a skill tree entry for tree-to-tree branch jumping, suggesting the woodland environments will feature the franchise's signature parkour traversal.

Even bigger is the rumor that Ezio Auditore himself is returning in some capacity: j0nathan describes this as certain rather than speculative, and Rogue's leaked dialogue paints a picture of Ezio as an aged mentor figure. The lines discovered include:

Come. Leap with me. One last time for an old man.

They always fear what they cannot control. They called us demons once, too. But remember, Elsa: 'Nulla è reale, tutto è lecito.'

Anika herself allegedly has a line that reads: "That white hood, it's like the one in my mother's drawings", while Ezio responds elsewhere with "She wanted you to have a life." Whether Ezio appears physically, through Isu artifact projections, or in flashbacks is currently unclear.

Anika's predicament in Assassin's Creed Hexe is established through her own leaked dialogue: "They call me a witch. They want to burn me for what I can do. For what I know." J0nathan's overall assessment of the narrative is notably enthusiastic: he describes the story as shaping up to be significantly better than any Assassin's Creed since Origins. A character named Wolfgang is confirmed to appear in the main story, though his role remains unclear. Rogue's findings also point to story missions involving objectives to "find the ritual sites" and "recover the stolen relics", suggesting the witch trial atmosphere will be woven directly into quest design. Blood Pacts and poison mechanics are mentioned as gameplay elements, too. Mechanically, NPCs will now immediately report minor suspicious activities, suggesting a tighter detection system than recent Assassin's Creed entries.

Assassin's Creed Hexe has had one of the most turbulent development histories of any Ubisoft project in recent memory, with two director-level departures in just a few months. February 2026 brought the first major shakeup: Clint Hocking, a Ubisoft veteran with credits on Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Far Cry 2, and Watch Dogs: Legion who had been serving as creative director on Hexe, left the company. Ubisoft confirmed his departure and announced that Jean Guesdon, the newly appointed Head of Content for the Assassin's Creed brand and the director of the original Black Flag, would step in as creative director. Internally, Guesdon is reported to have substantially redesigned the game's direction, moving away from the overtly supernatural mechanics (most notably the cat possession ability) that had defined early builds.

Just two months later, in late April 2026, a second major departure landedBenoit Richer, the game director, announced via LinkedIn that he was leaving Ubisoft to co-found Servo Games, an indie studio built alongside three other ex-Ubisoft developers. Ubisoft has not yet named Richer's replacement. Around the same time, Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming reported that approximately 50 developers were moved off the project onto Ubisoft's internal Interproject team, possibly a direct consequence of the narrowed scope under Guesdon.

Despite the turbulence, Ubisoft reportedly considers Hexe one of the most desirable internal projects to work on, with developers across the company eager to be assigned to it. The current internal target is a June 2027 release, though Henderson has flagged a potential slip to Holiday 2027 as a realistic alternative given the team changes.
