The ex-CEO of Apple and a veritable tech icon, Steve Jobs, is slated to receive a posthumous honor from the United States Mint in 2026.
The $1 Commemorative Coin Shows Apple's Steve Jobs Sitting In Front Of A "Northern California Landscape"
As per a press release issued by the United States Mint, the 2026 American Innovation $1 Coin Program is intended to honor "innovations and/or innovators from Iowa, Wisconsin, California, and Minnesota."
The program is intended to recognize the significant pioneering contributions of a select number of gifted individuals "in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories."
Under the program, Apple's ex-CEO has been chosen to represent California, with the coin design showcasing "a young Steve Jobs sitting in front of a quintessentially northern California landscape of oak-covered rolling hills."
The $1 coin also carries the following inscriptions:
- UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
- CALIFORNIA
- STEVE JOBS
- MAKE SOMETHING WONDERFUL
As we noted in a recent post, corporate growth is as much a story of a personality cult as it is of innovation and market timing. It is perhaps due to Steve Jobs' larger-than-life persona that Tim Cook, Apple's incumbent CEO, is perceived as a relatively bland leader, a perception that has proven to be largely false in hindsight.
