Opting for AppleCare+ is one of the smartest decisions that customers can make because it essentially provides them with a ‘get out of jail’ free card when claiming a warranty for devices that have been damaged or display some kind of defect without paying a single dime. In the majority of cases, Apple employees will immediately provide a replacement, choose to repair the affected part, and, in rare cases, write up a bill for the customer. Unfortunately, on the latest occasion, a MacBook Pro owner was denied a claim from AppleCare+ after the portable Mac suffered catastrophic damage due to a car crash.

The reason for refusing to replace the MacBook Pro was that it was ‘too damaged’

On Reddit, one user who goes by the handle frk1974 posted an image of a MacBook Pro that looks like it had taken a sledgehammer to the chassis multiple times. Sadly, the machine met its untimely demise in a car accident, with the owner claiming that he had the AppleCare+ plan for accidental damages. Imagine the disappointing look on the face of frk1974 when he is denied a replacement and is met with the response that the MacBook Pro was ‘too damaged.’

The Redditor shares his story on the social network platform, with some of the replies mentioning that he should consider himself lucky that he did not face a grim fate due to the car accident. As for being denied a replacement of the MacBook Pro despite having an AppleCare+ plan, 9to5Mac points out that there is no reason to be denied service. After all, Apple’s support document mentions ‘To repair damages caused by fire, earthquake, flood, or other similar external causes’ as cases for exclusion, which would not be applied here.

Apple also mentions that damage caused to a product due to reckless behavior can be set up for exclusion, so there is a possibility that the MacBook Pro owner was denied a claim because he admitted that it was his fault, and the company deduced that the machine getting damaged was due to his reckless driving. Whether or not frk1974 is withholding valuable information from the Reddit post, we do not know as yet, but we will wait for more updates down the road, so stay tuned.
