A small number of Apple Vision Pro users who drive the $3,499 head-mounted wearable would likely be complaining of fatigue, and that is because the device ships with just a Solo Knit Band. Since there is nothing at the top, the headset’s extra weight might make it cumbersome to use after prolonged sessions, but that will not be a problem for much longer because a Belkin Head Strap will soon be available to purchase for a relatively affordable $49.95.
The Belkin Head Strap would be designed to bring extra comfort to the Apple Vision Pro, as demonstrated during the WWDC 2023 keynote
The head strap product listing on Apple’s online store was spotted by Brad Lynch. The puzzling thing about this accessory is how the company never introduced it when the mixed-reality headset was officially available to purchase earlier this year. It is possible that the small number of people who returned it complained about the lack of comfort. If the Belkin Head Strap was available as an add-on early on, it may have compelled buyers to keep the device, adding to the total number of shipments sold for this year. Regardless, the product overview is given below for those who plan to get it in the future:
“Enhance your Apple Vision Pro experience with an ergonomic and adjustable Head Strap that provides superior comfort and stability. Designed with aesthetics that make a great addition to the Solo Knit band, the Head Strap features a secure locking mechanism and additional stabilization points to keep Apple Vision Pro in place, even during vigorous movement.”
During the WWDC 2023 keynote, an unnamed head strap was demonstrated with the Apple Vision Pro. The technology giant’s marketing materials and promo videos also showed the attached accessory. Members of the press were also offered this configuration when they tried it on for the first time. It is likely that this head strap took so long to arrive on the market because Apple might have had a tough time convincing Belkin to put it into mass production. One reason why the Cupertino giant may not have taken the responsibility to develop this head strap from scratch would be the hefty R&D budget it would have to allocate.
Given that there are not enough Apple Vision Pro users around the world, and the company reportedly plans to stop producing any more units by the end of this year due to having a surplus of components required to achieve its projected shipment target of 600,000 units, the reward that would come with developing the head strap may not be sufficient enough for Apple to pursue this undertaking. The Belkin Head Strap currently has no release date, but at $49.95, it should not hurt the wallets of those who have already spent $3,499 on the Apple Vision Pro.
