Apple Vision Pro To Offer Slightly Increased Battery Runtime When Watching 2D Movies, But Nothing Too Extraordinary

Watching movies on the Apple Vision Pro

The Apple Vision Pro has been rated to run a measly two hours on a single charge thanks to the small battery puck that comes attached to the AR headset. Fortunately, when watching movies, you might still be able to get some juice out of the device because updated information states that video playback will last for 2.5 hours.

Watching 3-hour long movies will still require you to plug the Apple Vision Pro into a wall outlet

The updated information was spotted by MacRumors’ writer Joe Rossignol, who states on X that Apple has clarified some information about its AR headset, stating that users can enjoy some movies on a single charge. However, other cinematic experiences cannot be completed on a single charge as those movies are 3 hours long. Oppenheimer is one excellent example that should be watched on an Apple Vision Pro, but to view the complete film, the device needs to be tethered to a power outlet.

Apple has not mentioned if the small battery puck can be replaced with a larger one, but there is a possible workaround if you find yourself running low on charge with no power outlet in sight; a powerbank. Apple’s M2 lineup of Macs can be topped up using a powerbank if it can deliver a certain amount of wattage through the USB-C port, so the Apple Vision Pro featuring the same SoC should behave in the same manner unless a software lock prevents the headset from doing so.

Should the battery puck become an annoyance to carry in your hand when you are engaged in watching your favorite movie, Apple partner Belkin is reportedly making a clip that will keep the battery secure, though just like various other accessories sold by the company, this one will not be included with the Apple Vision Pro and has to be purchased separately. Pre-orders of the mixed-reality headset will start on January 19, with the device officially going on sale on February 2.
