LG Innotek is one of Apple’s lens suppliers for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but according to a Korean report, the manufacturer will be pulled out from the list of partners due to undisclosed reasons. Instead, ICT, which is a subsidiary of Luxshare, is said to provide Apple with the 10x tetraprism lens for future iPhone models. It should be mentioned that the rumor does not specify when Apple intends to introduce this upgrade to future iPhone models, but it likely will not be the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, with both flagships reportedly shipping with an upgraded tetraprism lens.
The new lens is said to be limited to a 5x zoom level, but it will reportedly cost more than the parts present on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple might be removing LG Innotek from its list of suppliers for the 10x tetraprism lens because the Korean firm may not have agreed to the pricing terms, providing a larger quantity, or running into quality problems. Apple typically keeps multiple suppliers for a specific component since it allows the technology giant to leverage better pricing on those parts.
This strategy also helps push its suppliers to provide high-quality parts in sufficient supply to secure future orders for a variety of products. The rumor mentions that Chi-ho Han, senior expert at NBNtv, has predicted that LG Innotek will continue to supply Apple with 5x zoom actuators next year, meaning that the manufacturer still has 12 months to renew its partnership with California-based tech behemoth. After that, there might not be a second chance on the table.
LG Innotek is also rumored to be one of the suppliers testing out the under-display camera technology for Apple to aid the company in achieving that ‘bezel-less’ iPhone.
