Severance is being renewed for Season 3

The popularity surge of Severance has forced Apple TV+ executives to renew the original series for a third season, and we can already imagine that millions of viewers will be ecstatic to hear that they will be able to watch nine or 10 new episodes, while also being worried that there is no way to know when the next season will start airing. Thankfully, the streaming platform’s head of programming has assured that they will not take their sweet time, even though a production date has not been decided.

With the amount of success that Severance has garnered, the Apple TV+ executive says it is vital that the next season delivers on every level

Speaking to Variety, Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+ head of programming, hints that the level of quality present in the first two seasons of Severance means that the showrunners will have to put in the same amount of effort as before. Unfortunately, this is a time-consuming process, suggesting that it could be a while before season 3 materializes. However, it should be noted that season 2 arrived after a three-year gap because of Hollywood strikes and production delays.

“I think everyone’s just going to take a deep breath and enjoy where we’re at. I know they’re going as as quickly as they can. When you have the success that a show like ‘Severance’ has, you want to make sure you deliver on every level when the show comes back, and that takes some time. But they’re on it, and I think I’m feeling really good about where we’re at.”

When talking about the waiting period for season 3, Cherniss says that no one wants Severance to arrive after three years, but because there is no production date mentioned, this information is currently in limbo. Hopefully, the renewal happens as early as possible.

“No one wants it to be another three year gap… I don’t believe that we have a production start date yet, but we’re moving in that direction. I’m as excited as everyone else to see where the series goes. I may have a few ideas about where it’s heading, but I like to be surprised as much as anyone.”

So far, Severance has been a major hit amongst viewers, becoming the top 5 most viewed series on streaming services, while also bagging the most Emmy nominations this year with 27. Apple TV+’s winning streak has been extended with F1, as it is the first original movie this year to cross $400 million at the box office.
