While Apple was expected to incorporate Samsung's so-called Privacy Display within its MacBook Pro lineup a couple of years down the line, a new tantalizing tidbit has just dramatically accelerated that timeline, with the feature drop now expected in a matter of months, when Apple debuts the M6 Pro and M6 Max MacBook Pro variants, replete with an OLED screen.

Apple might not only adopt Samsung's OLED panels for its M6 Pro and M6 Max MacBook Pro variants, but also go a step further by incorporating the Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display tech as well

For the benefit of those who might not be aware, Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display feature can instantly obscure lateral viewing angles for the entire screen or a specific section, courtesy of a change in state within the display's liquid crystal layer that then causes a sudden shift in its refractive index.

Back in February 2026, the research firm Omdia claimed that Apple might incorporate the Privacy Display tech within its MacBook Pro lineup by 2029.

However, now a new blog by the tipster Schrödinger has dramatically accelerated that timeline, suggesting that the feature's adoption might materialize with the upcoming MacBook lineup:

"When can we see these displays on consumer laptops? Well, from the projection, we can start seeing these privacy display panels on laptops soon, starting from the M6 MacBook and some Windows laptops."

Of course, only the M6 Pro and M6 Max variants of the upcoming MacBook Pro will receive an OLED upgrade, with the base M6 variant continuing to sport a mini-LED screen. Likewise, it stands to reason that only the M6 Pro and M6 Max variants will receive the Privacy Display upgrade as well.

Do note that Apple is bringing a ton of functional and design-related changes to the M6 Pro- and M6 Max-based MacBook Pro variants, including a dedicated vapor chamber, as well as a new design for the cooling fan and blade, to keep the devices chugging along even under stress. This has led some to rename the upcoming apex MacBook Pro variants as the MacBook Ultra. Of course, it remains to be seen if Apple formally adopts this appellation.
