Apple's F1 is on track to reaching $300 million in box office earnings

After several attempts to garner box office success with a bevy of original content, Apple has finally hit a home run with F1, as the sports drama film is steamrolling the competition and could easily cross $300 million in global earnings. This figure not only makes the movie Apple’s most successful, but with the opening weekend registering around $145 million, it is also Brad Pitt’s highest run in his career.

A separate report estimates that in the global box office, F1 could easily bring in a grand total of $517 million

Looking at the updated earnings on Box Office Mojo, F1 has so far secured $293 million in the box office, meaning that it should have little obstruction hitting the $300 million milestone. The movie has also been the Cupertino giant’s most expensive to produce, estimated to cost $300 million and also includes custom gear such as a special module boasting an iPhone sensor that recorded footage during those high-speed races. So far, Apple’s success in the original film category has been a ‘hit or miss,’ with its most successful release being Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, which brought in $221 million.

In third place, we have Killers of the Flower Moon, which raked in $158 million at the global box office. As for the remaining two films, Fly Me to the Moon and Argylle, these were theoretical flops, so it is refreshing that Apple could catch a break with F1. Fortunately, there is even more positive news on the horizon, with The Financial Times reporting that the movie could achieve a new record and cross the $500 million box office threshold ($517 million).

This separate report mentions that F1 had a $200 million production budget, with distribution costs reaching $50 million. Given the wave of success that Apple is riding, it could take a while before F1 is available on the company’s streaming platform.
