Apple’s M5 iPad Pro With OLED Displays Is Finally Entering Mass Production And Could Launch Sooner Than Expected With Big Performance Gains And A Surprising Design Twist

M5 iPad Pro has ntered mass production as Apple aims to launch the device sooner rather than later

Apple moved away from its typical iPad Pro launch time frame this year, as it did not release an M5 iteration of the device. It was previously reported that the company will release its most powerful tablet next year. However, according to the latest production details, it appears that the device will see daylight later this year. A new report coming out of Korea highlights that mass production of the M5 iPad Pro's displays has begun, which is an indication that the launch is nearing.

Samsung and LG have kicked off OLED panel production, hinting at an earlier-than-expected M5 iPad Pro debut

Samsung and LG have reportedly begun the mass production of the iPad Pro's OLED panels, preparing for the launch, which will potentially take center stage in October or November. To break it down, Samsung handled OLED panels for the 11-inch variant of the iPad Pro, while LG was responsible for the 13-inch panels. However, the company has made slight adjustments with its suppliers this time around, as ZDNet Korea reports that both LG and Samsung will share the supply of 11-inch and 13-inch displays (via MacRumors).

Apple also wants its suppliers to be well-versed in OLED adoption for the upcoming devices. We have previously reported that the company will upgrade the iPad Air and the iPad mini lineup with OLED displays as well. The iPad mini will be the first one to get the upgrade next year, followed by the iPad Air in 2027. The company could also tweak the design of the devices to match the Pro models, but details on the matter are scarce at this stage. Other than the iPad lineup, Apple also plans to bring the OLED display technology to the MacBook lineup, and the higher-end 'Pro' models will be the first candidate for the upgrade.

Apart from the new M5 chip, Apple is not expected to make any major changes to the design of the iPad Pro models. However, there will be one crucial switch that defines the iPad. Mark Gurman previously noted that the Apple logo on the back of the iPad Pro will switch to a landscape orientation rather than a portrait orientation. This will allow the logo to be upright when the device is held in landscape mode. To be fair, it makes sense, as I have always used my M4 iPad Pro in landscape orientation.

Other than this, the design is expected to be the same, and since the company just upgraded the looks, we have to wait a while before the company introduces a new one. The M5 chip in the device will be based on TSMC's 3nm process, which is the same as the current node, but there will be computational and graphical performance gains. Do you think the performance margin is enough to make an upgrade from the M4 chip?
