Apple is expected to debut the iPhone 17e in a matter of months - the spring of 2026, to be more specific. It is hardly a surprise, therefore, that the rumor mill apropos the new iPhone is now going into a relative overdrive.
A tipster claims Apple will bring its signature dynamic island to iPhone 17e, while retaining a 60Hz display refresh rate
A tipster who goes by the username Digital Chat Station on Weibo reported earlier today that Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are likely to feature a 48MP telephoto camera with a larger aperture on top of the variable aperture technology.
In the comments section directly under their original Weibo post, however, Digital Chat Station has provided some valuable insights into the upcoming Apple iPhone 17e.
Specifically, the tipster claims that Apple will finally bring its dynamic island - a pill-shaped interactive area towards the top of the screen - to its cheapest iPhone.
Nonetheless, the iPhone 17e is still expected to feature an OLED screen with a mere 60Hz display refresh rate, essentially mimicking the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and 16 display panels.
As for the device's other features, it is expected to sport:
- A19 chip with binned GPU cores
- A glass back panel with an aluminum band
- Apple Intelligence
- A single 48-megapixel rear camera
- 18-megapixel front-facing camera.
According to Apple analyst Mark Gurman, Apple will likely handicap the iPhone 17e to prevent its cheaper smartphone from overshadowing the base iPhone 17.
As such, Gurman believes this deliberate throttling of the iPhone 17e would introduce greater clarity into Apple's product mix, definitively establishing the variant as a decidedly budget offering.
