The limelight of Apple products seems to be the iPhone series, and this time around, the iPhone 16 lineup received massive attention given the camera upgrades promised and the AI-infused features incorporated. Users are not only focused on getting their hands on the smartphone but also keen on upgrading to the company's accessories, which are usually announced alongside the hardware releases. Now, the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on updating the Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad, as revealed through a code discovered.
Apple would soon release new versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and the Magic Trackpad
Apple generally has a defined strategy for its accessories: to traditionally complement new hardware or OS releases with updated accessories. A code has recently been uncovered in the iOS 18.1 release candidate by MacRumors Aaron Perris, which points towards new versions of Apple's Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Trackpad to be on the way. We expect the accessories to be packed with not just performance upgrades but some design tweaks as well.
The code contains references indicating new versions of the accessories and also points towards versions that come with Touch ID and even number pads, while some of the models might not include these features. Currently, there is sparse information available on iOS 18.1. Seeing the general direction the company is pivoting in, we expect the accessories to also come with USB-C ports as Apple is shifting towards standardizing this charging port and moving away from the Lightning port for all its devices.
We might see the location of the charging port also being changed on the Magic Mouse since the previous version received a lot of backlash over the design, which did not support user experience and was a bit impractical with the Lightning port being at the bottom. There is a chance that Apple will unveil the updated versions of the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard with the latest M4 Mac model, and reports indicate that this might happen sometime in October.
Given how Apple tends to release updated accessories alongside hardware releases, introducing the refreshed accessories during this time period does make sense. We would be looking forward to the other changes brought forth that might shape up more as the launch date approaches.
