Apple Generated $240 Million In App Sales On January 1st 2017

The App Store is one of the greatest additions on iOS. The Cupertino-based company announced today that December of last year was the biggest month for the App Store in terms of sales and revenue with $3 billion from all sorts of purchases which includes subscriptions and in-app-purchases. However, if you think these numbers are huge in contrast to the time period, Apple notes that January 1st of this year was the busiest day for the App Store. It is further noted that customers spent a total of $240 million on purchases. Let's see see some details on the subject.

Apple Had A Great Year Start In Terms Of Revenue Generated Through The App Store

If we look at the trend, the company also previously stated that November was the best month for the App Store. The number of apps and games, according to the company, have jumped up to 2.2 million, which is an increase of more than 20 percent compared to the same time last year. As for how well the developers were given, the company paid over $20 billion last year. This is a 40 percent bump in payments to developers compared to numbers in 2015.

“2016 was a record-shattering year for the App Store, generating $20 billion for developers, and 2017 is off to a great start with January 1 as the single biggest day ever on the App Store,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We want to thank our entire developer community for the many innovative apps they have created — which together with our products — help to truly enrich people’s lives.”

Speaking of apps and games that contributed in the company generating the huge revenue, Pokemon GO easily stood ahead.  However, it was only the fifth highest grosser when we talk about the revenue. In addition to this, Monster Strike, Clash Royale and Fantasy Westward are some of the names that fall under the top grossing category. Subscription based apps include HBO NOW, Tinder, Line and Netflix.

Super Mario Run was downloaded over more than 40 million times according to Apple's press release. The best part about it is that it took the app only 4 days to reach the mark. Henceforth, it was also the most downloaded app on the App Store on New Year's Day and Christmas. Other than this, Apple generated $17 million for its (RED) campaign against AIDS with the help of developers.
