Apple just hosted its awe-dropping event, which was packed with tons of exciting hardware announcements. While the iPhone 17 series stole the spotlight, many Apple Watch users were highly anticipating the improvements in its smartwatch offering, and it looks like the Cupertino giant was determined to shake things around with not only some massive upgrades in health features for its Watch Series 11, Ultra Watch 3, and Apple Watch SE 3 but also when it comes to phasing out some of its previous-generation models.
Apple discontinues the Apple Watch SE 2, Series 10, and Ultra 2 following the launch of the new lineup
While Apple announced its next-generation smartwatch lineup today, which included the Apple Watch SE 3, Series 11, and the Ultra 3 model, it also marked the end of the predecessors of these wearables, as they would no longer be available through official Apple channels. As we put an end to the previous lineup, let us briefly go through each of the older models as a way to bid farewell.
Apple Watch SE 2 was first launched in September 2022 and became an instant hit with budget-conscious users. It featured the S8 chip, which was a massive performance upgrade at that time. The watch also featured a nylon composite case back. The SE 3 now comes with an S10 chip and an extended battery life, offering an array of improvements over its predecessor. Apple, as a result, has officially removed the SE 2 from sale.
Similarly, the Ultra 2 was unveiled in September 2023 and was meant to cater to outdoor enthusiasts with its upgrades in terms of outdoor visibility. The brighter display, rugged design, and introduction of the S9 chip allowed for better performance. The Double Tap gesture control made the watch experience feel even more intuitive, but now, with the more advanced Ultra 3 model, the Ultra 2 has retired.
Apple Watch Series 10 has also been discontinued despite being introduced just last year in September with a slimmer form factor and a revamped design. Despite the upgrades, the Series 11 has now taken over, while the Series 10 is no longer available. Nonetheless, all the new models are now available for pre-order and are packed with some major external and internal improvements.
This is not the first time Apple has discontinued older models, as it believes in creating space for newer versions and having a focused approach.
