Apple accidentally mentioned a 15-inch M1 MacBook Air, a product that doesn't exist, to the M5

A company that prides itself on its stringent focus on detail can often make head-scratching blunders that you’d never expect it to. On this occasion, one eagle-eyed individual caught Apple comparing a 15-inch M1 MacBook Air, a product that has never existed in its lineup, to the M5, which currently powers the technology giant’s latest portable Mac. Fortunately, the technology giant rectified the mistake, but not before someone posted it on social media for millions to see.

Larger 15-inch MacBook Air models were added to the lineup after the M2’s release

To remind you, Apple’s M1, which launched back in 2020, was found in the 13-inch MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the 24-inch iMac. The only time the 15-inch MacBook Air range was introduced was after the M2 launched, but according to the comparison below, Apple erroneously mentioned a 15-inch M1 MacBook Air, which doesn’t exist.

This portable Mac may have existed as a prototype that didn’t make it to the production line, but as far as commercial units are concerned, none were manufactured. On X, @Hypno0784 found the error, which compares the 15-inch M1 MacBook Air to the 15-inch M5 MacBook Air, with Apple claiming a 170 percent faster performance between the two chipset generations in image processing.

It didn’t take long for the Cupertino firm to catch wind of the mistake, because if you visit the exact same comparison, the 15-inch M1 MacBook Air has been replaced by the base 13-inch M1 MacBook Air. In all honesty, when you’re dealing with a myriad of performance graphs and charts, it is quite simple to make mistakes like this, but as long as Apple corrected before the news spread like a forest fire, all can be forgiven.

If you’re interested in pre-ordering the M5 MacBook Air, both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are listed on Amazon and start from $1,099, with the biggest difference being that Apple has finally upgraded the base storage to 512GB, addressing a major complaint.
